One Hundred & Eighty Miles.

August 14, 2012

It feels as if it were ages ago that this whole process of moving began. I was applying to Cal State University of Bakersfield, looking for a new living situation, and pestering managers at In N Out about a transfer. I’m now in my new room, I’ve recently resumed work at a new store, and school is set to begin in less than 4 weeks. Time sure does fly. I have been documenting every little detail of my move and in this post will tell you (and show you) all about my 180 mile move up to Bakersfield.

So here I am, in my HUGE new room, getting ready for the day. (Well about to after I type this. I’d be pretty impressed with myself if I was simultaneously doing both.) I’m all moved in and waiting for the whirlwind that is work and school to start.

“The move” has been a multitude of things; exciting, adventurous, scary, thrilling, a learning process….et cetera, et cetera. There are a plethora of lessons I am learning about starting up again somewhere new and moving in general. I never realized how much time and effort it takes getting all the small things in order. I have never made so many trips to Target in my life. I go one day and get chocolate chips and another day to get a bathroom  trash can. Two days ago I went and bought that nonstick grip stuff in order to hang up pictures without making a wall into a hole-y mess; while I was at it browsed the section of iron’s (who knew they can be as cheap as 12 buckaroos?). It’s silly things like this that I have never taken the time to check out because I never needed to and I love feeling more grown up because of it. I love having my own mini pantry, my own set of silverware (4 sets to be exact), my own decorative towels and bathroom mat, and a closet that finally fits all of my clothes comfortably.

Although it’s hard being away from my close friends and family, I truly love the people who I am surrounded with here. I’m thankful for the relationships that I’ve gained through dating Allan. Speaking of that man, I am beyond happy that we are in the same city, not battling technology with it’s dropped calls and failed Skype attempts. We are able to simply go over each other’s houses and make dinner together or what has become normal lately, watch the Olympics.

I know I’ve missed so many things that I’ve been meaning to tell all of you, but I wanted to tell you my thoughts and show you where I’m living. Trust me, there will be more posts about my move to come!
